New businesses and the Jitterbug OR Just another Friday in Guernsey County
On the drive in town to come to work I noticed one thing that was never on the beaten path before. A sign in front of a small, rented space on Wheeling Avenue read, verbatim, "Extreme Picture Frames."
One, there is nothing extreme about picture framing. Nothing. Two, what the fuck?
This is the type of thing that many people from the area care to comment on. However, as my friend Corey says, if they have the gumption to put money into starting a business then they should receive nothing but praise.
Still a stupid name though.
In other local news, today marks the beginning of the annual Salt Fork Arts and Crafts Festival at the Cambridge City Park. The event, as much as some townies like to poke fun at it, is actually well known around the artisans community and brings lots of tourism to our little burgh.

It should be noted that tonight at 6 pm the CHS Alumni Jazz Band, of which yours truly is a member, will be performing a 2 hour set. For as long as I remember I've been touting the music program of Cambridge High School and this group is my proof. All former Bobcats, these musicians are all professional caliber...except me. I was lucky enough to snag a seat in the back and look cool.
If you're looking for something to check out tonight, you might wanna stop by. Besides, old people will be dancing. HARD.
That's my favorite part of the whole experience. During a few, select big band charts, the elderly will emerge in front of the stage and start doing the Jitterbug. A dance that ran through the greatest generation in a way that the Macarena and the Electric Slide can only DREAM of, the Jitterbug is a fast paced, crazy legged excursion into all things geriatric. And I love it.
So there are your options, Cambridge. Dancing with the elderly or getting a portrait framed while watching some sweet skating videos and eating doritos.
