War: Always good copy

Last night at around 9:30 pm, the war in Iraq officially surpassed World War II in terms of length.

Bit of an eyeopener.

The soldiers that we've placed in the "Greatest Generation" and all the amazing things done from December 1941 to March 1945 always seem to have went on longer, a perception brought on by the war's massive reputation. When I say that I don't mean to downplay WWII, but instead shed light on the size of the problem we're stuck with in the middle east. Over three years after the president stood in front of a flamboyant banner in a flight suit and informed the world that the armed forces had done their job, we are still there.

Despite of whatever reason we were given as justification for the invasion of Iraq, one thing is certain...it's different now. An amazing phenomenon that Jon Stewart addressed on a recent episode of The Daily Show.

This highlights the fact that the Bush presidency is, quite possibly, the worst example of political public relations...EVER.

To paraphrase Lewis Black, we've been lied to before. Politicians to do it all the time, it's not a big deal. However, when you DO lie to us, you have to do a better job of tricking us.

It's insulting as an American citizen to listen to our leaders speak on television, rattling off a new talking point every few months that contradict what was said before. It oozes arrogance and slaps the American public in the face.

Just to be fair though, Democratic senator Barack Obama (Ill.) recently spoke at a town hall meeting in his homestate, touting the need fuel-efficient vehicles...only to leave in a GMC Envoy.

You hear that? That's America collectively sighing.
