On today's agenda: Handling the media, protecting homeland
This morning has been fairly interesting, thus far. An attorney turned addict has brought in camera crews from WHIZ to shine some light on the fact that the Guernsey Co. jail is understaffed and underfunded. He knows this, of course, because he recently finished a 30 day jaunt inside of it. It's very fun to watch someone try and explain how it is they know so much about the County Jail without giving a full criminal history.
The thing is, he's right. The jail is understaffed, it's probably not ran properly, and there are many things that need corrected. However, like everything else in the area, the problem stems from underfunding. However, convincing the public to pass a levy is no easy task here.
Maybe, just maybe, something will be done. Tune in to WHIZ-TV tonight to find out.
Moving on to the afternoon, I think I'll be spending it undergoing training in the event of a terrorist attack on Guernsey county.
For two hours this afternoon I'll be learning protocol, chain of command, and other nuggets of information. Those are things I know I'll be told. Things I HOPE happen include getting a badge, some sort of obstacle course that must be finished in an alotted amount of time, a racial profiling exercise, and something involving a fully-automatic rifle.
I'll let you know if I get approved as "Emergency Ready," but until then the terror alert level will remain one level higher: "Slightly anxious" yellow.
(As an aside, I started to write this entry around 9:30 in the morning. It's now 1 pm. It's been a little busy and a rush like that is exactly why we need to have all court employees to work in the obstacle course.)
