Weekend in review OR Why you're an idiot

If you think you don't want to go to a NASCAR race, you're an idiot.

That's just all there is to it.

After taking in the GFS Marketplace 400 yesterday at Michigan International with 2 friends, we all came to the conclusion that Auto Racing is America's greatest live sport. First of all, fans begin camping at the track on Tuesday. That's five days before the race. Tracks oftentimes hold well over 100,000 people, and over 200,000 at a few. Even if you choose to wait until raceday, the parking lot opens at 6 am and so does the party.

Leaving a friends house near Toledo, which served as a cheap hotel, at 4:45 in the morning, we arrived in the expansive lot around 6:15 am and began drinking beer out of oversized coffee mugs. This place is great.

The lax environment also extends into the track. After coercing Nathan Weber to use an ID that, well, wasn't his in order to being a small cooler of beer into the grandstand, we found out that ID'ing for alcohol simply isn't done at Michgan International.

Attendant: Whattdya got there? Cooler? Alright....beer, mugs....we're good. Take 'er in.
Us: Really?

It was then painfully obvious that we would have been able to trapse in with a couple small animals and 3 small pistols. What a place.

Another crazy-cool aspect of the race is a scanner that one can rent for around 30 bucks and listen to the radio frequencies of all the field's drivers, the radio broadcast, and the TV broadcast.

Being able to hear an uncensored account of the conversation between a driver and a crew chief can lead to the gem I caught between Kurt Busch and his crew.

Kurt: What happened there?
Chief: We just made the wrong decision, Kurt.
Kurt: Yeah, we're getting pretty fucking good at making the wrong fucking decision.
Chief: Well I appreciate that buddy.
Kurt: YOU JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW BAD THE FUCKING CAR DRIVES!
Chief: Yep.

Outside the wide world of motorsports, Snakes on a Plane was the number one movie in America this weekend despite turning in relatively low numbers.

Fucking told you.
